Two ICEP Members Honored with College’s Annual Awards

Two of ICEP’s dedicated physicians were honored for their ongoing commitment to the College with ICEP’s annual awards at the 2010 Spring Symposium and Annual Business Meeting on April 29 at Northweste Memorial Hospital.

 

Mark E. Mackey, MD, MBA, FACEP, of Chicago, was presented with the College’s highest honor, the Bill B. Smiley Meritorious Service Award, which recognizes his contributions to the advancement of emergency medicine in Illinois.

 

Dr. Mackey has a long history of dedication to govement affairs for ICEP and in the state of Illinois. He has tirelessly represented the interests of emergency physicians in the forum of Medicaid reimbursement and continues to work to maximize this reimbursement for all emergency physicians. He remains active on ICEP’s Govement and Public Affairs Committee. He served as Chair of the Committee until 2008 and played a critical role in getting medical malpractice legislation passed in Illinois in 2005.

 

Dr. Mackey served two terms on ICEP’s Board of Directors and served as ICEP President in 2005-2006. He has represented ICEP as a Councillor to national ACEP and also serves on ICEP’s Practice Management and Awards and Nominating committees. Dr. Mackey was recognized with the ICEP Meritorious Service Award in 2007.

 

Dr. Mackey is the Finance Director and an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago.

Linda J. Nordeman, MD, FACEP, of Springfield, was presented with the Downstate Member Service Award. The Downstate Member Service Award specifically recognizes a physician who lives outside of the Chicago metropolitan area but continues to remain active in the organization despite having to travel great distances for most ICEP activities.

 

Dr. Nordeman served on the ICEP Board of Directors from 2006 to 2009. She has also served as faculty for ICEP’s Oral Board Review Courses. She is a continued presence at numerous ICEP events, including the annual Spring Symposium events, past Downstate Emergency Medicine Conferences, and other educational programs.

 

Dr. Nordeman is the Chairman and Medical Director of the Department of Emergency Medicine, as well as Immediate Past President of the Medical Staff at St John’s Hospital in Springfield. She is also an associate professor of emergency medicine at Southe Illinois University School of Medicine and faculty for the school’s new emergency medicine residency.
