Ultrasound-Guided Peripheral IVs Hands-On Workshops

This half-day course presented by ICEP, Illinois ENA, and Advocate Christ Medical Center gives you 2+ hours of hands-on practice, 1 hour of didactic review!

What You’ll Cover at the Course:

  • Ultrasound basics: Terminology, probe selection, knobology, and image quality improvement techniques
  • Getting started with ultrasound-guided peripheral IV:  Indications, basic anatomy, identification of veins vs. arteries, transverse and longitudinal approaches, potential complications, common mistakes, and how to avoid them
  • FAST Exam: Overview, indications, scanning tips for optimizing images, and identification of false positives
  • Skills stations: Normal vasculature, transverse and longitudinal approaches to peripheral IV placement, normal and abnormal FAST exam, central line target practice, and more

Target Audience

All levels of nurses and emergency providers whose patients require peripheral IV access for optimal care.

This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Emergency Nurses Association, an accredited approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
