Legislative Veto Session Update – Week of December 6

After completion of the last week, the House and Senate have left Springfield until January.  While there are many issues that have yet to be addressed, there was a considerable amount of action at the Capitol on a variety of high profile issues.  The House and Senate passed legislation this last week legalizing civil unions and changing the pension system for future police and firefighters.  Still to come are reforms to Medicaid and Worker’s Compensation, along with potentially addressing the dismal financial situation of the state.

As previously reported, there have been additional legislative days scheduled in January of 2011 prior to the inauguration of the new General Assembly on January 12.  The current General Assembly is now scheduled to meet on January 3 through 7 and January 9 through 11, 2011.  The Senate has only added two (2) additional days at this point, January 5 and 6.
